In The Beginning
I realize that I am so blessed to have even started Beauty Mark in 1992 - at a time when on-site make up artists were few and far between. I was keeping busy working on photo shoots and weddings while also raising the two most amazing young men on earth. Initially I was just looking for a way where I could work, all while allowing me to stay home and raise my children. I have the ability to always see the beauty that lies within each individual. In the beginning I tried my hand in styling hair but I never quite felt that it called to me. While learning hair, I could not help but notice that I never saw a face that I didn't like! I started doing makeup and it just felt right. It wasn't long before I knew that makeup artistry was going to be my profession. My plan was simple - I wanted to offer my services without any of my clients feeling any obligation. They would not feel pressured to purchase anything or feel the need to settle with makeup that they did not absolutely love. I vowed to listen to my clients while also providing my professional opinion when necessary. I knew this would be the best way to give my clients exactly what they were looking for.
Starting my business was tough and it should be known that Beauty Mark is not a one man show. I never could have done it without the constant support of my husband - the best husband in the world. He has helped me stay organized, keep my weddings and consultations straight, take calls from clients, and so much more. Numerous times I've come home after doing three or four weddings earlier that day, starving, feet sore, and he would be right there to cheer me on telling me, "you're the best!"
Being a professional makeup artist has been wonderful. Every single time that I'm on my way to meet a client, I can't help but take a moment to reflect on how lucky I've been!
